My Peace I Give to You…

“Peace I give you. My peace I give you.” John 14:27

The peace of JESUS resided deep within HIM from HIS earliest memories and youthful life. JESUS knew HE was GOD in the flesh come to personally redeem HIS Creation. The peace of JESUS was evident as HE sat in the synagogue. Sabbaths were weekly reminders of HIS ultimate sacrifice at Calvary. HIS patience with parents and playmates modeled for us HIS ability to remain humble and obscure until “HIS time” or “the fullness of time” dawned like the first sunrise on the very first day of Creation.

The long-suffering patience of GOD allows HIM to restrain HIS hand of judgment when it is due. HE pauses to give HIS errant child time to repent. No earthly father could ever pity with such tender care as HE does. HIS mercy rebounds and rushes to fill the stop gap between us and the penalty our sins deserve. The blood of JESUS speaks words of treatise and intercession just as Abel’s first blood called out to GOD for justice from the ground where it was spilled.

Father! Father! Your eye beholds our wavering affections. Sometimes all to You. Sometimes – just a bit for ourselves. Oh, how we grieve Your intentions and frustrate Your desires when we do not turn from temptation. How we frustrate Your love when we do not accept Your correction and forgiveness.

I have marked the time as I have grown from first steps to dancing. I have marveled as GOD has built me from within. One truth upon one precept, upon a new revelation and grace in CHRIST JESUS is how JESUS established my new life foundation. I cannot recall every increment clearly but like tree rings I can measure in highlights where HE has brought me from. A victory. A favorite song. A glorious moment of liberty. Each tree ring is a herald and witness that my new life in JESUS is the LORD GOD’s doing and it is marvelous in my eyes.

It is my hope that you will receive JESUS, the Prince of Peace today. Even if you have been living under a rock for the past few months it is hard to miss the chaos and strangeness of the times. Everyone everywhere can sense the unrest, the mounting anxiety, the trembling of the earth beneath our collective feet. No place on earth has been untouched by the extremes paraded before our eyes. Social, political, economic, and medical upheaval have caused our norms to be upended and we are trembling. With eyes wide and hearts pounding we are praying fervently for peace. With eyes closed and hearts suspended in soundless grief we are praying fervently for peace.

When the silence comes to us individually as we sit in a quiet moment to catch our breath, we will be able to hear JESUS whisper,
         “Peace I give you. My peace I give you.” John 14:27

Rest is more than sleep.

Silence is the absence of sound.

Peace is not the absence of noise.
  
Peace is the moment we know JESUS is in complete control.

Scriptural Reference: 1 Peter 4:18 KJV  'And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?"  Think about these things...  Before the LORD whispered to Noah to advise him of the coming flood people were living hundreds of years (averaging 700) and birthing countless children. When the cup of the LORD's patience was nearly full Noah began to preach of the coming flood and Noah began to build the ark. Noah spent 100 years building the ark while preaching of the coming flood. Of the countless millions who were on the earth, each with a life expectancy of 600-700 years, we can only speculate that there were perhaps trillions of people living at the time of the flood. The shattering truth is that of those untold millions 8 people were saved. Could some of the others have been saved? Noah preached repentance, but there is no record of their repentance. At Ease

Scriptural Reference: John 8:32 (KJV) "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Ephesians 4:25 (KJV) "But speaking the truth in love...."   Full sigh and deep breath.  Repeat. This is the way I am right now and since some special dear people who love me have spoken life transforming truth(s) to me.  There are occasions when we may find ourselves in conversations about our lives that has been witnessed by long-time friends, and close family relations. Our mutual proximity to one another is often a place where true bonds of emotional vulnerability and trust are created and strengthened with time. I am so grateful to JESUS for providing such an environment and persons who promote this type of atmosphere in my life. I know that this is not common. I am certain this is unique. I am not surprised that few groups, and fewer families, know this precious treasure. I celebrate JESUS grace in providing the confidante(s), companion(s), and true friend(s)...

Were you there?

Scriptural reference: Isaiah 53:5 (kjv) "But HE was wounded for our transgressions, HE was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon HIM, and with HIS stripes we are healed." 1 Peter 2:21-24 (kjv) (paraphrase) "...CHRIST suffered for us... who HIS own self bare our sins in HIS own body on the tree, that we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."    It's likely that you have remnants of the roast you made for the celebration of JESUS resurrection in your refrigerator. The roasted bits are creatively tucked into pitas, taco shells, and slices of toasty bread until they are mere memory of something delicious and shared. It's also likely that you heard it alluded to in song or sermon, "Were you there when they crucified my LORD?"
