First Mention

Scripture Reference: Genesis Chapters 1 and 2 

Reading Genesis 1:1 today sounds like a title. The tense of it is stated like a precursor. Somehow every word seems to draw a word picture of what the following information will support, confirm or describe. Like the recipe begins by stating the name of the entrée, appetizer, or dessert. The ingredients/steps follow.

When the first things concerning time, earth, all its substance, and man were being formed and created GOD initiated all of them by the power of His Creative Word.

The laws of first mention establish the order, the best or primary use, the foremost and best intent. Today I was struck with how many nouns and verbs that seem commonplace and unremarkable to use now – would have no clear meaning if they were not first given meaning as uttered by the voice of GOD here in Genesis.

So many words transcribed by Moses were first spoken by GOD – who created the world by wisdom, in wisdom.  The Law of first mention is a thought framework to begin to understand how important concepts build a library of reference. If the scriptures had not given us terms for the world we live in, we might suppose that the use of them is ambiguous or irrelevant.

In the book of Genesis, we find the first immutable of life which is GOD. GOD is without equal or comparison. He is the Deity. He is the originator of all life.  He is the source and impetus of everything that follows.  GOD created the universe. GOD created light, dark, stars, everything of substance, and all things invisible (i.e., angelic hosts, cherubim, powers, principalities, dominions).

I realized that the scriptures themselves have given us the vocabulary that has become the source of words we use to describe the world we live in.  

For example: in Genesis, chapters 1 and 2, there are several descriptive words that are commonly used today.  I will present them in alphabetical order and perhaps my point will become clearer.

Scripture Reference: Psalm 100:3 "...It is HE who has made us and not we ourselves."

It is interesting, astounding and amazing that the genesis of all that we know began in GOD in eternity past. GOD manifested the life we know on earth for HIS purpose. Each one of us is important to the LORD GOD because HE has given Himself to us, for us, and HE wants fellowship with us. What a privilege salvation is!

As you walk with GOD in the cool of the day listen to HIM as HE names the things HE sees in the garden of your life.

 

Your Heavenly Father knows what fruit will hinder you and cause you to feel the anguish of death and spiritual defeat.

Your Heavenly Father knows what fruit will help you continue to live in perfect peace and fellowship with HIM.
